31/01/2025

Definition of overconsumption
Overconsumption is when many people buy things or services that they don't necessarily need or use. Overconsumption is based on people buying the latest thing to be at the cutting edge of fashion'. But this ideology of always wanting to buy has a multitude of consequences.
What is the consequences of overconsumption ?
The overconsumption has a lot of ecological consequences :
- overfishing : There are fewer species of fish and seafood in some parts of the world. Some species are now on the brink of extinction or have become extinct because of overfishing.
- Pollution : Some factories make a lot of clothes, which creates a lot of waste.

But we can reduce our overconsumption by doing a few things
To combat this, we need to change the way we consume. We need to buy less, but better, by buying organic, labelled, ethically certified, local and less polluting products. This also means, for example, reducing travel and recycling.
